Dr. Professor Jeffrey Moses presented his personal story. In 2003, he retired as an active surgeon and founded Smiles International Foundation. This is a national and international organization, which organizes and provides international charitable surgical care for underprivileged children who are afflicted with cleft and craniofacial deformities, allowing excellent optimal growth and development for the children served. 
Smiles International was formed initially in 1987 as part of the Pacific Clinical Research Foundation. The Moses Institute is another subchapter of the Pacific Clinical Research Foundation dedicated to the education, training, and certification of Surgeons interested in TMJ Arthroscopic Surgery. Clinically related education for professionals and volunteers is provided though the Foundation's accredited Continuing Education Symposia, which help in establishing. International liaisons and ambassadorial relationships between professionals and Universities make the goal of self-sufficiency in the mission sites achievable. 
 
Carlsbad Rotary has a long history of support for Dr. Jeff Moses’ Smiles International. In 2007, Rotary Club of Tecate joined forces with the Rotary Club of Carlsbad cut the ribbon on the first children's facial deformity surgical clinic. This clinic performs complex surgical procedures under general anesthesia with Tecate's state-of-the-art facility built specifically for the centennial anniversary of Rotary.
 
Dr. Jeff Moses, founder of the Smiles International Foundation, along with his wife, Maribel, worked closely with Rotarians, doctors and local officials from both sides of the border to locate patients and arrange supplies and logistics. The official name for this project is Smiles of Tecate or, in Spanish, Sonrisas de Tecate.
 
At this Rotary meeting, Dr. Moses had many interesting insights and stories to related relating to his expanding work in many different countries.  Rotary of Carlsbad is proud of our close relationship with Jeff Moses over many years.
