Bruce Bandemer and Vinnie Ahuja presented the program. Their subject was the Rotary Club of Carlsbad Foundation that funds scholarships for local students.
 
The Foundation is organized as a 501(C)(3), Federal ID# 95-3489812 not for profit organization. Since 1980 this foundation has awarded hundreds of scholarships to students in the community, giving many young adults a chance to fulfill their dreams.
Carlsbad Rotary Foundation began in 1980 with a gift of $ 20,000 from Bill Smith, a club member. Through various fundraisers the Club and contributions to the principal of this scholarship fund. As a rule, only earnings are used to fund the scholarships awarded. Over $50,000 has been awarded over the last 4 years. We estimate that over $ 400,000 has been awarded since inception.
 
The foundation is focused on building a strong and vital Carlsbad in which to live, work and raise children. To do this, it provides educational assistance to students and schools and disciplines that are needed in the community.
 
A Board of Directors comprised of current or former Carlsbad Rotary members governs the Foundation. The current leadership: Bruce Bandemer; President; Vinit Ahooja, Secretary; Craig Lindholm, Treasurer; Board Members – Joe Bear, Ray Pearson, Ed Scarpelli, Julie Norby and Kevin Clark.
 
Our mission is to fund 13 $ 1,000 scholarships annually to students at Carlsbad High School, Carlsbad Village Academy, Sage Creek High School and Mira Costa College. Donations for scholarships average 4% of balance 
 
Contributions to the foundation can be made through the Rotary Club of Carlsbad (PO Box 34, Carlsbad, CA. 92018) Checks should be made out to Carlsbad Rotary Foundation.  Contributions are tax-free and a receipt/letter of acknowledgement will be provided to the donor. There are additional recognitions for donations in excess of $ 1,000.
 
Additional funding sources: Annual budgeted contributions, fundraisers (such as raffles, Christmas party, earnings from investments.
