The Rotary Club of Carlsbad participates in The Rotary Foundation’s Global Grants. Since 2005, when 17 Rotarians visited South Africa, our Rotary Club has been consistently raising funds and matching them in Partnership with District 5340, The Rotary Foundation and other concerned parties.
Our collection of Rotary Clubs has exceeded $1,000,000 (US) in real aid “on the ground”. This outstanding humanitarian effort has addressed the needs of nearly 3 million HIV/Aids Orphans in the Northeastern areas of South Africa. Our task has been to help them find local fresh water from wells we provided: Wells that were used to quench thirst, keep livestock healthy, and help grow fresh fruits and garden vegetables.
Add in our assistance in early childhood development and education, and it’s easy to see how participation in Rotary, or donating to the Rotary Foundation (or both!) can have a SIGNIFICANT IMPACT on a lot of people.
It’s true we’ll probably never meet most, if any, of these people we’re helping…but that’s unimportant. Because Rotarians don’t try to make the world a better place because they want recognition. We do it because it’s the right thing to do.
